Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. 

Everyone is truly broken by the effects of sin in this world.  Some are more broken than others but broke is broke.  Hopelessness overwhelms hope and just living is just plain hard.  The thoughts of ending this life, which would be a grave mistake, often comes up in many.  The choices of a sinful life or even the innocence of what a sinful world has caused us can devastate us.  Our world, that at times seems so strong, can collapse in seconds.  
Then we see Jesus!  That glorious hope that offers us life and being made whole.  He didnt just stumble across our disaster of life we are in, He intentionally came to personally interact with us.  Jesus came for the broken!  One would have to be deceived or a fool to not realize they are broken.  The world does nothing but break us.  Jesus has made me whole.  We have problems yet now we know the solution to all of them.  His name is Jesus.  
Again, we are all broken.  What are we doing about it?  Jesus came to heal the broken.  Will you allow Jesus in and let Him do what only He can in your life?  This I speak to the believer and unbeliever alike.  Sometimes Christians are the most deceived ones on this topic.

Traditions are nice.  They mean something to stroke our pride but they often always result in humanistic dominance vs Godly observances.  Man just cant leave Gods simplistic commands alone and will add to them as if they are not enough.  Men always will try to fill the quite voids God makes due to his uncomfortable ability to just sit at the LORDS feet and wait for further instruction.  Its as if men take what God gives and seek to make it better?  When Jesus confronts this traditional lean in us, how do we respond?  We cant have it both ways, Gods commands and mens traditions.  They are diametrically opposed from each other.  What do you want more?

Do t be jaded by the world.  God keeps His promises.  He is never slack concerning His word.  The only reason Jesus hasn't returned as of yet is because there is more sinners that will be saved and receive eternal life.  When that last soul enters the kingdom of God, Jesus will blast that trumpet and we will all be caught up in the sky and will ever be with our Lord.  Now none of what I just mentioned will mean anythi g to you unless you are prepared like today to meet Him.  He will come at a time we will never know but can totally bank on.  Be ready for Jesus' soon coming.

Often, if not always, when I am a fault finder, I'm in the wrong.  We often use the cloak of doing the right thing to justify our judgmental attitudes.  Christians are not exempt from doing this but are often the worse offenders.  Make sure thats not you.  The Pharisee's did not know what they were talking about and assumed superiority over God.  What is it we seek to accomplish by seeking fault in others?  If I would spend more time evaluating my own life, fixing my own issues, I wont have much time to judge others.  However, if I seek to build myself up that results in taring others down in order to do so.  There are things we must address in others for sure yet those are to be done in a attitude of grace & love.

Are you thirsty for God?  All are thirsty yet most try to quench their thirst everywhere but God.  Every time one chases after the world or some dream of theirs that has nothing to do with Gods will, or some quest to achieve the what the world offers, they are trying to satisfy their thirst.  This is utter madness and can never achieve the desired results.  
Jesus is the source of the Living Waters of Life.  He offers them to us freely but we must focus our thirst upon Him.  Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.  This isnt a promise of worldly goods but a promise that anything you need in this life will be given once your priority of the LORD is set in place.  I cant think of a single thing I lack after all these years of following Jesus but I can tell you for days what I have gained.  Sure, I could of aquired some tempral success here and there but at what expense in other areas of my life.  I have chosen to place God 1st, my wife 2nd, children 3rd, church / job 4th, and then everything else next.  It has proven to be a huge blessing.  Without the first, none of the others will work out.  Do you hunger and thirst for Christ?  I mean, like today?  Greater than your thirst for natural water?  A man can only go 3 days without water.  3 minutes without air.  3 weeks without food.  I say we cant go 3 seconds without God!

There has been a lot said about what heaven is like.  Most of it is conjecture at best.  We really are not given a clear description of heaven but we do have enough to know, you want to be there.  Since God dwells there, everything good is there.  Beware of anyone that claims they know what heaven is like or they been there.  I must admit, I have no clue how to measure heaven by since everything I know is what is passing away.  
Heaven is one of those things we must accept by faith.  
We must live now in such a way that we will be there then!  We cant live for this passing world.  What a waste that would be.  Heaven really isn't my goal, no, my goal is dwelling with my LORD and Savior who lives in heaven.  Heaven is just a piece of His promise.

Matthew 9:1 So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. 2 Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

It seems everyone will say they have faith.  I cant argue with anyone about what they have or don't have but what I know is this, faith should have evidence behind it.  Jesus saw these four friends faith.  How?  Their actions in bringing the paralytic man to Jesus but first pressing in to get to Jesus by taring the roof apart.  Not the best method or even the will of God but the faith they had Jesus honored.  I would also add that this man that was healed had a measure of faith as well, but that's another dimension to this story.  Do I walk in a way that Jesus and others can see my faith?  I better, if I call myself a Christian.  My walk should compliment my talk.  If I say I believe in Christ and He is alive yet live as if He is dead, that is not faith at all.  Faith activates when we are obedient unto the Spirit of God.  Abraham believed and that belief God accounted for righteousness.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Jesus only needed to die once for our sins.  I have seen some Christians come to the alter multiple times thinking the previous commitments didnt take and maybe this one will.  I certainly dont want to lessen ones response to the Holy Spirit in obedience, but the idea that the power of the blood of Jesus not able to wash them previous is misunderstood.  I have committed many sins after my first time being washed by the blood.  Truth is, Jesus has been washing my feet after those but my heart has been made clean at conversion.  The wonder working power of the blood of Jesus is the only source of washing of sin.  He is coming back for me and all that have been washed in the blood.

There are so many occupations, places, things in this world that we can get entangled in that go against our conscience.  This is a major stress on people who have integrity.  The temptation to shelf what you believe to be true in order to remain or move up in your current position is real.  Everyone over us are not people of faith always.  There are times we must stand up against what we know is wrong. 
Living for Christ ensures we live with a pure conscience.  He will never lead us to compromising truth for profit.  There are so many enslaved by religions all over this world that do things against their conscience due to pleasing men or the false god.  I have seen fathers who claimed to be Jehovahs Witnesses see the hard ache that their harsh stands against celebrations of their childrens birthdays while their kids get left out of events with their friends.   Parents should have every right to raise their children as God has entrusted them yet these religious barriers men have made bring unnecessary hardships.  There are many examples of living against your conscience but none of them originate from Christ.  Everything Jesus has told me to do has bettered my life and the lives around me.

All the sacrifices and blood spilt led to One Sacrifice.  Jesus Christ the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.  Without His blood, there is no forgiveness of sin.  All animal sacrifice could only cover men for a short time.  The blood of Jesus washes us from all sin.  I'm grateful my Savior went to the cross He didn't deserve so that I would be forgiven of sins Im responsible for.

What an honor God has approved us to be entrusted with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.  Not that there is anything good in us but because of the revelation of who Jesus is and has come to do.  God is not looking for a qualified man or one who has lots of academia.  He doesn't call the equipped but equips the called.  Our message isn't to gain mans approval but to be faithful to Gods word.  If you have made Jesus your Lord and Savior, the Father has approved Him this has approved all those in Jesus.
I have encouraged many Christians who feel they are not qualified to share the gospel due to not having enough biblical knowledge.  But all they must need is a real experience with the word of God.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

Do you realize you are a sinner?  Present day?  We as born again Christians are washed from our past and have been given a new heart that desires to live for God.  Some Christians I have met in life actually have convinced themselves that they no longer sin now!  I really wished that was the case but I still sin intentionally as well as mostly unintentionally.  The difference now is I have the Holy Spirits conviction.  Trust me, nobody can relate to a person who thinks they have no more sin.  Its not realistic.  
Now, this by no means is an excuse to sin but a simple acknowledgement that you still have this horrible capability to.  One day soon, we will shed these carnal temporal bodies and take up our incorruptable bodies.  I cant wait!  Fact is presently, I need Jesus' sacrifice now more than ever!

1 Thessalonians 1:4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. 

This is referred to as the Sovereignty of God to call those to eternal life.  The bible is clear, God knows everything and there are plenty of scriptures to support this.  I dont think its a hard stretch to believe this theological fact.  God is all knowing thus He calls those He knows will be elect.  I wish this topic was this simple.  
There is another side of this equation.  Mens responsibility.  There are just as many scriptures supporting this theological view of God and man.  
Here is where the two, I believe, compliment each other.  Both are scripturaly based and both are true.  God is Sovereign and men are responsible to respond to His calling.  God calls whosoever will believe unto salvation.  If you neglect that call, well God knew you would reject that call and you are not His elect.  Yet, though God knows everything, men know little to nothing.  Even men who at one time rejected God, later received Him.  We see this in a plethora of examples and I will give you the author of this verse, the apostle Paul as one.  
God calls you but you are responsible to answer the call.  The pendulum swings on either side is not the complete picture.  Only when it swings in the middle do you see the full picture of Gods word toward this subject.  You must be well grounded in the full counsel of Gods word.  If your theology has contradictions with other scriptures, your wrong!  My eternal calling and security is simply based in me living in the Vine (Jesus).

Patience can be seen in us.  This is very fascinating.  I can live day by day not knowing how the Spirit has calmed me or given me patience but the world around takes notice.  Oh, I do realize how I handle things now isnt even close to how I would handle them in a chaotic mess years ago before Christ.  By spending time with Jesus, it is impossible to not take upon ourselves His characteristics.  This hope the bible speaks of is not wishful thinking but earnest expectation.  If I know what is coming, Im for apt to wait patiently for it, even when things seem hopeless around me.  
This is the Christian I pray I am and will remain.  This is the Christian I pray I can help others experience, if by only, this feeble example but as the power of the Spirit living in me.  Jesus has changed my life.  Jesus continues to fix my course to heaven.  All my faith, love, and hope are in Him.  For Him.  Because of Him.

This is an interesting term, "labor of love".  This love spoken of is the Greek word Agape, Gods unconditional love.  When we spend time with Jesus, led by the Holy Spirit, we walk as He walks and talk as He talks and love as He loves.  The super spiritual Christians say, oh that isn't a labor of love at all!  Well, I will not argue with them but I will say, its not natural to me and I have to work on expressing Gods love.  I want revenge or I desire paybacks from those who wrong me.  Yet thats not what I find in Christs' flawless love shown to me.  I can tell you what it isn't very easy.  I have worked overtime in what love is not yet I also have worked hard to seek to be led by the Spirit and not the flesh more so.  Now, this labor of love is not burdensome whatsoever.  It actually is satisfying. There is a work Jesus told men to do, believe & act upon the work of God in that receive and trust what Jesus has done for you on the cross.  
Look, I have not perfected this labor of love but I am still laboring in it.  The benefits are out of this world.  I will be rewarded at His appearing soon.  I cant wait.

Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead) 

I honestly do not believe every professed Christian can say this or mean this.  Some have gone through the channels of ministry but have never personally heard the call.  Why even the internet will allow one to get a ordination.  Some take the ministry as a profession.  Some are kind of forced into it as well.  Yet what Paul says is the most freeing statement known to man concerning his ministry.  God called him to this and God will open the doors for His work.  If men place you there, men can get you out.  If God puts you in ministry, only God can take you out.  
Now, personally, I feel so free not having to answer to men about Gods word.  Oh, Im fully accountable to men for what I say and do but as long as its Gods word, He has my six!  Since Jesus was raised from the dead by the Father, we serve a living God who calls us.  There is power in His calling.  A dead ministry is not from Him.  He is Life!  God called me and thats where I want to keep it.

Who besides God would ever do this for you?  Jesus willingly took the curse of sin and the punishment for sin upon Himself on Calvary's cross for you.  He did not have to go but if He did not go, you & I have no hope and would die eternally in our sin, separated from God.  Jesus never sinned but the sin of the world was placed upon Him as He became our substitution.  His pain was our gain.  His death became our life.  He nailed the righteous requirements of sin to His cross so that we could be justified to live righteous lives in Him.  Next time someone offends you and you say these evil words, "they dont deserve my love" remember what Jesus did for you, in whom did not deserve His love.  He showed us His love in that while we were in sin, Christ died for you.

Paul knew everything that happened in his life was Father filtered.  Basically, God is in control and allows things to happen in our lives.  However, along with that statement, He only allows to a point and He has the ultimate last word of blessing to those who trust Him.  The Spirit never leads us to avoid the mountains of problems but to hit them square on in courage and power that He gives.  All things work together for good for those who love God and are called by Him.  This is such maturity to realize whatever comes into your life, whether good or bad, can and will bring glory to God and will never destroy you.  The only way it can is if you get away from His gracious loving arms of protection.  I don't like things that happen to me or my loved ones or even at times understand why but I know that God is the answer and solution to every one of them and that's where I place my confidence!

Most people finish what they start yet all people fall into situations in life that will not allow them to finish the job.  This doesn't make us flakes, It just proves we are powerless at times.  I love viewing new abandoned structures due to a variety of reasons on youtube.  What a total waste as mega structures sit dormant which in actuality, every part of it decays.  I dont believe anyone builds just to stop short and lose their project.  Unfortunate things happen.  Its all or nothing.
Now here is the good news.  Jesus finishes what He begins.  You never get old to Him.  He is totally committed to you and desires to finish our lives but we must allow Him.

Titus 1:1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness

Paul, a great leader in the early church, well learned and experienced man of God, describes himself as a bondservant, a slave by choice, to Jesus Christ.  He had the correct understanding of his LORD.  I witness to many Christians seem as though they are the boss and Jesus is their servant.  Now, that last part is 100% true, Jesus is the Servant of servants yet He serves us out of His true sincere love for us.  
After all, Jesus came to serve and give of His life in exchange for ours.  Who am I to tell Jesus what to do.  After being filled with the Holy Spirit, I wanted to serve Jesus in every capacity available.  Whenever the opportunities presented themselves, I would never turn them down.  This got a little challenging later. I think this is very telling of the person Paul was!  Are you Jesus' Servant or do you call the shots?  It cant be both ways.

Phil 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

The love of God is above everything.  This is a great prayer for all of us to pray that we have this abounding love.  Any other motive but love will left empty and never satisfy.  Gods love has this amazing ability to change lives for the better.  Love doesnt matter how many times you failed, what little knowledge you have, or what great accomplishments you've achieved.  This love that God has revealed and poured out upon us is the only thing that moves me.  The Lord taught to love by His example.

Mark 2:3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

I'm sure the four buddies brought the paralytic to Jesus to be healed yet Jesus addresses the most important thing first.  Jesus will heal this man yet He first tells him his sins are forgiven.  I'm also confident this man desired to walk with God for the Lord wouldn't just tell a man who didn't think he was a sinner he forgave him.  What good would it be if he was healed only to die and go to hell?  Priorities must be set and our relationship with God is the utmost priority.

Psalm 77:2  In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;

What hope we have access too in seeking out the Lord.  Here, the psalmist sought the Lord in his troubles.  That is a good time to do so for this life is abundant in troubles yet there is a greater, more uplifting time to seek out the Lord.  When life is seemingly going well for this really reveals our character.  Don't get me wrong, we are all one second from disaster but there are times in my great days, I tend to forget to seek Him out which is a downward spiral when the bad days come.  Look, I want to seek God in every season of life but especially in the good days.  For every good and perfect gift comes from God.  I want to tell Him thank you.  Oh and most importantly, I can only seek Him out because He first sought me out.  He left the 99 to find this 1 lost sheep.

Psalm 75:1 We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!
For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.

How can one see creation and not accept that God is actively involved in His creation?  The wonderful works of God declare He is alive and near.  He hasn't put us off or forgotten about us.  I am overcome by praise to my heavenly Father and filled with gratitude for how He has taken this wretched sinner as I and saved me.  One cant see a radically changed life by the Spirit and not believe God is near.  He offers us hope and a sure eternal future of life and freedom from this body of sin and death.
