Examine the Works of God?

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

You are loved by God. Because that, don't fall prey to everyone or thing that says they are of God. We are to test, or examine, each work or word by Gods word. John links false prophets to false spirits. He is not saying they are spirits but by whom motivates them. We as born again believers, are moved by the Holy Spirit. I don't seek to destroy Christs church nor tear it down in any way however I must walk in discernment as John mentions here. Every "thus says the Lord" doesn't mean God is speaking. Many False prophets spoke in Jeremiahs day saying God would bless them and never allow Babylon to overthrow them yet never repented of their idol worship. Every word and work needs to be carefully measured by the Word of God. We are to take every thought captive and measured by Christ. When I weed out the bad words, my walk becomes a whole lot clear & simplified. I don't even trust my thoughts or heart really. I have to take my actions and deeds to Gods word and see if its the Spirit guiding me or my own flesh. This simple powerful word John gave is proof once again, he wasn't a dictator in the church but a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. John fell under the same scrutiny as all of us, Gods unaltered, unfailing word.
