Why God Calls in the Wilderness?
Matthew 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
This is a very odd place to be called to. The wilderness was void of people, the very purpose of the message of the gospel was given. Im sure if John asked his elders for their approvals, not many would support such a move. Many, counting himself, would question whether God was really leading him there. This goes beyond conventional wisdom. We are told: location, location, location! However, make no mistake, the Spirits leading has nothing to do with worldly wisdom. He uses the most impossible means to bring about His glory. See, as John obediently went, the Spirit of God was doing what He does best and moving upon all the people. Not only did a few come out to the middle of nowhere, but all went out to check out what was happening. This wasn't just curiosity, it was the Spirit moving men to action.
I can recall many times I have heard over the years about a location we had that was not the beaten path, that people just don't know about us, that we would grow faster if we got a better location. Maybe if we were a typical worldly business but we are a church, with the greatest message on earth, lead by the Spirit of God who has no limitations on the depths of mens hearts. I have testimony after testimony of those who just felt the LORD, or "something" led them to the church! When Gods at the helm, we are in the passenger seat, what an exciting time to live.
