Be Like an Athlete

2 Timothy 2:5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

There are many similarities between Christianity & Athletics.  There are endless comparisons & lessons we can apply.  Yet, here Paul makes a clear distinction as an example.  Those who compete must compete by the rules or face disqualification.  The more I chew upon this, it makes complete sense.  The root of any sport is to compete to win but within its rules!  Anyone can cheat and appear better off.  The means justify the ends!  Whatever it takes to win.  Not in sports and not in Christianity.  If you are going to remain faithful in Gods grace, you will run this race to win within Gods boundaries of His word.  The jehovahs witnesses claim its okay to lie to unbelievers if you are trying to win them into the kingdom hall.  Paul would say never run that way!  We run to win, for sure, but we also do things as Christ would.

When sharing the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there's no need to cheat or lie in order to "win" a person over. The Holy Spirit will bear witness by drawing the person to Jesus. At that point, each person is free to choose to believe or not. The love, grace, and mercy of the Lord is more powerful than anything. No liars or cheaters need apply.
