Justin Martyr (165 A D)
Justin was a scholar devoted to ideas, debates, arguments, & defense of the faith of Christ. He was born in a pagan family at the site of Shechem in Samaria. He mastered the writings of the stoics & the platonists which were the best minds of Rome & Greece. Unsatisfied he would come across an old man who presented Jesus Christ to him and would receive Jesus at age 30. He would debate Jews & gentiles on the merits of the gospel, the truth of the Messiah, and the coming judgment of Christ. Justin is considered the 1st Christian thinker after Paul to grasp the implications of the Christian faith. He was strong in faith and very articulate in theology. He pointed out all pagans have a glimpse of truth but cannot fully find truth until they come to Jesus Christ.
He told the Romans that Christians are the most noble citizens they have. "we are in fact of all men your best helpers and allies in securing good order. but be warned, Dont demand that they bow before falsehoods."
Justin never held an official office in the church that we know of. He never shied away from the death that would most often come upon Christians who refused to simply deny their LORD. Martyrdom was actually expected in these days to pass from this life to heaven.
His last words, "You can kill us, but cannot do us any real harm."

I love this thread of truth shared by all true Christians who have relationship with Jesus. Even if it means our lives are taken by the enemies of God, there is waiting a greater glory than we have even glimpsed in eternity. To deny the One who created, redeemed and filled us with His Spirit is unthinkable. He promised that whatever we endure in this life, His grace is sufficient. He will never forsake His redeemed.
