Patrick Hamilton (1527)

Patricks court sentence was a huge shocker and a first for its kind.  He was of royal stock, a Scottish man related to Stuart King James V.  He was well educated and everyone knew he was going to do great things in this life.  He was on the rise as Martin Luther nailed his thesis to Wittenbergs door.  He actually had met Luther and was drawn to this new living move of Gods Spirit working through the Protestant Reformation, though it wasn't called that at this time.  Patrick was a gifted musician,  actually composing & directing in his home cathedral.  This young man only had one fault, he didn't have any sense for danger.  He took on many debates taking the side of Martin Luther which would land him in very hot water.  Christians died for what they taught during these years.  An archbishop of the Catholic church named James Beaton, greatly despised Patrick and even set traps to prosecute him.  Hamilton was newly married to his lovely bride when James invited him to participate in a conference of learned church leaders, so it appeared, to debate new doctrines.  Of course, he took him up on it but it was always a trap.  James ordered him arrested on 13 counts of heresy, how fitting this number was selected, quickly found guilty to die that afternoon.  I guess a speedy trial was taken literally.  Patrick didn't fight against the charges and he very much believed what he taught.  Patrick Hamilton would march on his own free will and placed upon the stake to be burned alive.  Do you still believe?  Talk about what love is not, James ordered gunpowder be placed under his arms, I guess to go out with a bang, and cigarettes around his waist.  The powder burst into flames but no explosion.  Patrick, our dear brother, suffered for six long hours in front of a crowd who listened to him sing and cry out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."  They condemned him to death so fast in order he never be pardoned by the King.  It is no surprise Satan still uses this play today.  I cant say, I would not appeal.  Paul did.  Not recant, but go through the legal process, as corrupt as it may be.  But to just say, okay, it is what it is, lets go, I'm guilty, wow, what a bold Christian.

The wickedness of man throughout history! What did Patrick Hamilton and others like him do to deserve such a horrific death? They didn't threaten anyone's life. They didn't ask for heads to roll. They simply spoke of what they believed in. JESUS! It's amazing to me how just a difference of opinion can cause so much divisiveness. Add Jesus to the equation and it makes some people go crazy. I can't comprehend how my believing in Christ can threaten others. But then, I can. Those that reject our Lord and even though they don't know it, "their" Lord, know the truth. Why else would they fight so strongly against it? I am so thankful God created in me a heart for Jesus. I believe I've always had it. It took a while before I looked for and found it.

Yes! Speedy trials for Christians! This is far from Patrick Hamilton’s case but similar to it. On the job, quickly found guilty to be fired! A trap was set up! Big brothers still exist, but God handled it all. God’s timing! Amazing! It was was God’s plan. There’s bigger blessings coming! God will prevail!

Yes, the Lord is the only One who can bring in true justice, and He will. This worlds mutation of justice is evil. Its inspired by satan himself. What threatens his temporal rule must be dealt severely. Jesus faced shame trials and we will face shame trials, but Jesus beat death, rose again, and lives forever and so will we who are made alive by the Spirit.
