A sons view of a Great Father
1 Kings 2:1 Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying: 2 “I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. 3 And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn;
I want to revisit this devo I gave last week. A key event happened yesterday morning that has gave me a personal insight to this text, not just from David, as a father, but much more Solomon, his son, who looked unto his father for direction and guidance. David lived a full, godly life and now the torch is given, what will Solomon do with it?
My dad went to be with Jesus yesterday morning. He was a David to me in every way. He never taught me to fish, he wasn't into sports, his hobbies were not mine then nor since, never helped me put a sermon together, and he never taught me auto mechanics. All these things I learned on my own but he taught me so much more important things in life that allowed me to enjoy these skills and interests. He was a solid Spirit filled Christian man who loved his wife always, loved all six of his boys always, and always pointed to the LORD in every facet of life. I didnt need to learn how to turn a wrench from my dad in order to live a godly life. Like David, his life, not perfect, but a man after Gods heart, has laid a solid foundation by which I stand. I pick up the torch he held faithfully to now prove myself a man! He has fought the good fight. He has finished the race. He has kept the faith. I long to hear the words my dad heard yesterday, well done good and faithful servant, enter you into the joy of your LORD. Solomon, and I now, need to take this torch faithfully. Solomon, I know how important this message meant to you for it means volumes to me now.

Stalwart. In this life, for the Lord. Love and prayers for you and your family. Like David, your Dad left a lasting heritage.
I am absolutely sure your father was very proud to have a son who devotes his life to the Lord and is a great shepherd to this church. What else could a godly father ask for?
n
nWhile your father rejoices in the presence of the Lord, we pray for those who will miss him dearly. May the Lord comfort you and your family in this most difficult time.
Thank you very much.
What a blessing your father bestowed on you. You are definitely carrying the torch he passed on to you. Prayers to you and your family for peace and comfort in knowing that your father is with the FATHER. GOD bless you!
I praises God for His light you’re carrying so high so people can see it. As what I said before, you carry the light of God and I am blessed that you’re my Pastor. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.
nI’m sorry for your loss. My prayers for your whole family. Your father was very blessed to have the legacy of his faith. God bless.
