King or king?

Matt 2:1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem

Herod wasn't a king as we often think of kings but was in authority over Israel.  He was Romes selection to keep their interests.  He also was an Edomite.  How degrading to Gods promised people to have a carnal man rule over them.  What a gut punch to have an evil man tell you what you may or may not do in life.  How many people questioned Gods sovereignty?  Yet the true King of kings was born in Bethlehem of Judea.  He was sent by the Father to do the Fathers work.  This invokes remembrance of another set of kings in the Old Testament named David and Saul.  Saul was men's choice but David, not a king at the time, was appointed by God to be the true King of Israel.   Since sin entered the world through Adam, there has always been this battle between the kingdom of light verses the kingdom of darkness.  Not that darkness would ever win but for a season, puts up a fight.
