Jesus came to Free Us

Isaiah 61:1  “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God;

This day of our nations freedom came at a great cost.  Those who fought for freedom were godly driven folks.  This desire for freedom to worship God was evident, something I think we have lost in our day.  However, true freedom doesn't come from men, our forfathers knew this.  Isaiah gave this to a divided nation Israel who were in all sorts of bondage.  They left their God to serve idols.  Here, this is speaking of Jesus Christ.  Some 700 years before the Messiah would be born of a virgin.  A world in bondage to sin.  Utter brokenhearted lives. Only bad news of hopelessness.  Jesus is the Good news.  The gospel is the gospel because of the reality of the bad news.
Our nation will only be as free as the freedom it has received from Jesus.  Again, men cant make anyone free.  No matter what this nation erodes to, we must solidify in our hearts to be free men!  I have known several free men behind a nations jails.
Now, verse two is rather fascinating.  A comma seperates 2000 plus years.  Jesus' 1st coming was this acceptable time of Gods favor upon man.  His 2nd coming, still yet future, will be a day of Gods vengeance!
