Matthew (60ad)

The disciple of Jesus named Matthew, or also Levi.  His brother was James the less, one of three brother pairs called by Jesus.  He was a tax collector of Rome which insured he was hated by his own people for exploiting them.  Matthews heart desired this Jesus for this Man was different than any other Matthew came across.  One great day, Jesus came to Matthew and said, "Follow Me" and that's all it took.  He forsook all his worldly gains, gave back to those whom he wronged, long list, and took Jesus up on it.  His 1st stop would be his house as tax collectors, sinners, & religious folks would gather around Jesus.  Jesus took heat for eating with Matthew & various other sinners but did that stop Him?  Will it stop Him from perusing you?  Jesus' response in defense of the Matthews of the world priceless: Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  But go and learn what this means, I desire mercy and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance (Matt 9:12-13).   Jesus revealed His mission to call sinners and offered His invitation to those willing to come and Matthew recorded this!  Matthew was believed to have been the only New Testament author to record his gospel in Hebrew, not greek.  Im sure he felt a heavy weight to reach his brethren about Jesus is their Messiah.
Matthew, commissioned by his LORD, is believed to have taken the gospel of Christ to Ethiopia where he would be beheaded.  What a man Matthew was, sinner saved by grace.  Now, doesn't that fit you?  Jesus came for those who are sickened by sin, need a doctor, and He is the Great Doctor.
