Valentinus (269 AD)

Today's faithful witness I would have never known in a million years to be included on this journey.  He belongs! If his name sounds like something familiar to you, a special day of love called Valentines day was named in his honor by pope Gelasius in 496.  Not much is known of him except his strong stance on biblical marriage and the ability to have one that honors God. In fact, he stood up for the greatest and 1st institution set by God, marriage!  In our day, we need Christians like Valentinus.  We are currently okaying unbiblical marriages as a nation.
The evil emperor Claudius II, made an edict that none of his soldiers could be softened up against bloodshed by marriage.  Losing their focus I guess. Many soldiers didn't like that stand and wanted a true love of their own and wasn't sold out to just killing people all the time.  So many flocked to Valentinus and married underground.  I think I've heard in the Bible spoken about those who forbid to marry!  It didn't take long for word to get back to Claudius and he caught him for treason & disobedience against the perfect of Rome.  He was beaten by clubs & beheaded on February 14th 269.  Nice valentine message right? Obviously, he wasn't a Valentine's day guy at all, others messed his name up, but I'm honoring him for his great love for Gods institution of marriage and giving his life for it faithfully when most just went with the current.  I love how there are millions of ways to be faithful to God.  Its not always just denying Christ literally. But by identifying with Christ, Valentinus stood up for marriages that honored God.

I will never look at Valentine's Day in the same way. People who love and honor God regardless of the cost . . .

I never knew this. Or if I did, I forgot. So really, if we all celebrate Valentine's Day as couples, we are honoring and remembering what he died for (as well as remembering our love for each other, of course).

nThat's kinda cool. ?
