The Word of the LORD rare?

1 Samuel 3:1 Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.

Why was the word of the LORD rare in those days?  No revelation of the LORD?  I don't think this was common for this time.  At many points in world history, Gods word was rare.  Now, why now?  I believe the previous problems with Eli's sons and the wicked priests had a lot to do with it.  God will not bless such vileness!  God was not accurately portrayed in these priests thus God couldn't be witnessed through them either.  God has nothing to do with evil and wont join in with it.  This wasn't God not speaking but more of an indictment of the priests that didn't know nor could they model the LORD properly.  God speaks but man often isn't listening.  With Samuel growing up in the LORD, this would radically change soon.
Now, how about us?  Do we give time in prayer for God to speak to us?  Do we desire to experience God today and hear His voice?  Do you desire to be like a Samuel in your day? Of course, we cant make God speak yet we can be still and quite before the LORD and listen to Him speak.

Amen. "They that wait on the Lord will renew their strength." As we open the doors of our hearts to Him, He renews, comforts and instructs us. Just like He promised in His Word. The One who is Faithful and True will never fail.
