Is God our Good luck Charm?

1 Sam 4:10 So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter, and there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers. 11 Also the ark of God was captured; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

Israel lines themselves up to battle against the Philistines.  Sounds okay right?  Well, they didn't consult the LORD first off.  Second, God was resulted to being a good luck charm.  These two sons of Eli were a real piece of work and such a disgrace to the office they held.  They didn't respect the LORD but they collected His checks!  I've personally known pastors like this!  Entertaining doubt and a departure of the faith but not being forthright with the church they are supported by.  They robbed Christ' church.  Here, Eli's sons figure that the Ark of God will ensure their victory and life will go on as normal.
The enemy was more courageous then they!  God doesn't need mans help to be protected.  These uninspiring boys will learn their last lesson and those in Israel will learn the hard way.  The living God defends Himself and isn't to be reduced to a good luck relic!  All the cross necklaces, all the christian items in the world wont ensure your victory.  Only a humble trusting heart in the LORD will ensure victory.
