The Reason Israel Asked for A King

1 Samuel 8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, 5 and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”

This passage is another new fact I have missed over the years of reading the Bible.  I always knew Israel desired a king, that this desire wasn't good.  However, Samuel's boys actions was the root cause.  What a disaster and it really started with Samuel.  Israel lost faith in the leadership of these crooks.  We can definitely see this in our time today.  Godly leadership will foster craving for the LORD to reign yet ungodly leadership drives men away from the LORD.  I don't think this was a great idea to ask for a king like the other nations yet I do understand why.  I wouldnt want to submit to these young men either.  Two wrongs don't make a right. Pray for your leadership please!  Decisions made on the fly effect many for years to come.  In fact, they didn't recover from this monarchy system until after Babylonian captivity.  Let that sink in.  I see the importance of seeking Gods will in every decision, both small and great.  I need His grace and mercy.
