Conviction of Sin

1 Samuel 12:16 “Now therefore, stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes: 17 Is today not the wheat harvest? I will call to the Lord, and He will send thunder and rain, that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking a king for yourselves.”
18 So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. 19 And all the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.”

Israel felt the conviction of sin in desiring a king to rule over them rather than the Lord.  There is a time to lay down the law to those who think they haven't broken it, but often people already know they have.  We understand guilt pretty often in life.  The problem is once you have the guilt & feel the conviction, what do you do with it?  The only answer is confess unto the Lord your sin, repent, and ask for forgiveness.  Get off that path of guilt and unto to path of righteousness.  This is a sad story for they know their error but still chose to move forward in it.  This is always a sure way to destruction.  Ask God for a tender heart to turn away from such wickedness.
