Familiar With Jesus?

Matthew 13:53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Being familiar with Jesus is great!  I don't believe I will ever become over familiar with my LORD.  Yet what I see here is a people who thought they knew the LORD.  This is the problem.  One assumes God is this and He is really that.  The problem we all can run into is not being familiar enough with the LORD which leaves us in that dark.  Jesus calls us to His glorious light.  He reveals Himself to those who desire to know Him.  This lack of knowledge of the Living God leads to unbelief about who He is.  Just a moment in His presence will clear up much of the misunderstandings.  His family, though in His presence, though they witnessed a holy life always, did not have their spiritual senses to discern natural vs spiritual matters.  The answer always to this problem is making yourself familiar with Jesus.

These James and Judas will later receive their half brother Jesus and James would go on to lead the early church. They responded to Gods conviction as we all must. Though they grew up with Jesus, They got familiar with Jesus when they believed.
